This was the case for one of our clients who had a group of dangerously tall poplar trees growing in their front garden.
The Project: Reduction of Dangerously Tall Poplar Trees
Our client had recently moved into their new home, but the property was at risk due to a group of large poplar trees in the front garden. Poplar trees are a fast growing species so they can become very tall, very quickly. Unfortunately, this can also render them unstable as the wood is porous and therefore quite weak so they can be easily uprooted in the event of high winds. Meanwhile, the strong, fast-growing roots can also be a threat to any nearby buildings.
In the case of this client, it was the height of the trees that were making them dangerous, so we were asked to cut them back to a safe size. The trees had gotten so large that this was no easy task, and the client was right to seek out professional help to quickly take control of the situation.
The Results
We know how hazardous out of control poplar trees can become, so after assessing the situation with the client, we recommended that the trees be cut back to a much safer height of six metres.
As poplar trees can be quite unstable it was too risky for our experts to try and climb the trees to carry out the work. So the first step for us was to organise a 35-metre cherry picker tall enough to help us reach the tops of the trees to prune them back safely.
As the property is located in a cul de sac, access was difficult – and falling debris can also be a hazard in this situation, so we also organised the temporary closure of the road to ensure that everyone stayed safe and to allow us easier, uninterrupted access to the trees.
Thanks to the cherry picker and some hard graft from our experts, the trees were cut back in no time creating a safe front garden for our clients whilst still maintaining their privacy and preserving the life of the trees for years to come.
