One of our core services is tree felling. Tree felling and removal often become necessary when tree safety is a concern. Our client in Epsom had a sycamore tree with a Ganoderma fungus bracket present at the base. This is a species of wood-decaying fungus that causes decay. The infection occurs through tree wounds and attacks large roots, resulting in rot in the heartwood of the tree, which would cause complete tree failure. Unfortunately, once this fungus is inside the tree, there is no effective way to stop it and no products to manage the disease. In addition, the client was concerned the tree would cause damage to their property if the tree was to fail during a storm or over time.

There are two main types of felling: straight and sectional tree felling. When a tree needs to be removed in a confined space, such as a residential garden or driveway, sectional felling ensures no damage to the surrounding areas. This is where the tree is dismantled in sections and brought down one piece at a time. We will always complete the necessary risk assessments and follow stringent health and safety guidelines.

Once a tree has been felled, our arborists also offer tree stump removal, if required using the latest stump grinding machinery or herbicide treatments. This will ensure there is no re-growth or that the stump does not attract any honey fungus.

The Results

A highly skilled arborist climbed the sycamore tree, and it was carefully dismantled in sections using lowering ropes to lower branches carefully to the ground. This tree felling technique was completed to avoid causing damage to the client’s garden and property.

Any challenges?

The tree was dismantled without causing any damage to the client’s garden or property. The client was very particular that he did not want any harm to his lawn area. This was particularly difficult considering the tree was over 15 tonnes. However, our team completed the work, no damage was caused, and the client was delighted.
